Sportivate is a Lottery programme that gives 14-25 year olds access to six-week courses in a range of sports.
The programme is aimed at those who are not currently choosing to take part in sport in their own time, or are doing so for a very limited amount of time, and will support them to continue playing sport in their community after the six weeks is up. During the six weeks a participant may work towards an event or personal challenge.
Sportivate is fully inclusive and targets participants across this group, including young people who have a disability, males and females and people from people BME groups.
The following criteria must apply to all programmes:
-
Programmes must target 14 – 25 year olds (or ages within this range);
-
All programmes should be 6 – 8 weeks;
-
All participants should be signposted on to a club / new programme after the project finishes;
-
Weekly registers must be kept and submitted upon request
-
Sportivate branding must appear on all marketing material;
-
Programmes should not be solely funded by Sportivate money i.e. small weekly charges to participants can be made, and all ‘in-kind’ costs should be outlined on applications;
-
All clubs applying for Sportivate funding should ensure their coaches meet the Coachmark standards. For more information visit www.sportinherts.org.uk/coaching/coachmark
To register your interest and to apply for funding, please contact Kirsty Aitken on k.aitken@herts.ac.uk
CoachMark is a scheme supported by both Herts Sports Partnership and Hertfordshire County Council that establishes standards for the coaching of sport and physical activity in schools and helps to safeguard young people as they participate. A coach accredited by CoachMark meets the minimum standards set out by sports coach UK, the governing body for sports coaching.
For CoachMark clearance, coaches must individually register on the Coaching Herts database and then provide evidence that they meet the minimum standards for deployment. These standards, agreed with Hertfordshire County Council, are in line with national guidance from sports coach UK and the national governing bodies for sport. The standards are:
- appropriate coaching qualifications
- DBS (formerly CRB) registration
- appropriate liability insurance
- attendance of Safeguarding & Protecting Children Course
- suitable references
- commitment to a code of conduct
